David Short

David Short, Psy.D

I enjoy helping individuals live a more meaningful and authentic life. In my practice, my approach utilizes evidence-based and trauma-informed practices including somatic and mindfulness based approaches to tailor treatment to the unique needs of each individual. I believe that everyone has within them an innate wisdom and healing intelligence that can help guide their process of healing and growth. My job is to help cultivate a space to support the individual as they learn to connect to this deep wisdom. I am committed to offering a compassionate and non-judgmental space for personal growth and healing.

Despite what brings you here, I often find that people are looking for tools to regulate their nervous system, explore how to feel and navigate their emotions, or discover and connect with different parts of themselves. My goal is to meet your needs with practical steps that bring you closer to where you want to be.

I thrive in collaboration with highly motivated individuals who are willing to engage in introspective work. I seek to connect with those who possess a deep curiosity and openness towards self-exploration—the seekers who are hungry for truth and yearn to connect with something greater within themselves. My approach incorporates practices to access and relate to the unconscious and unseen worlds, bringing awareness to hidden aspects that may provide support and guidance.

With 15 years of experience in diverse settings such as prisons, Veterans Affairs healthcare, and community health clinics, I have witnessed firsthand the vast spectrum of trauma and suffering faced by many. This deep exposure has highlighted the limitations of current standards of care in meeting the complex needs inherent in the human condition. As a result, I am passionately committed to exploring and implementing the most effective and innovative practices that foster healing and growth.

My journey has led me to integrate specific modalities in my approach that I have found significantly potent for the transformative process. Einstein said, “we cannot solve a problem in the same state of consciousness in which it was created.” To effectively address our challenges, we must seek pathways to access alternative states of being and understanding. This principle holds true across personal, collective, and ecological crises.

I enjoy exploring different approaches to emphasize an experiential state in our work. Rather than merely discussing issues, techniques like Somatic Experiencing and Internal Family Systems offer an embodied approach to our situations. These methods enable us to access the unconscious wisdom stored in the body in a different way. Furthermore, for those drawn to it, Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy presents a new paradigm for exploring the psyche. This approach embraces its complexity without fear or pathologizing it. Currently, I utilize ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, which is the only legally available option for utilizing this transformative approach.
